If your game server installation becomes corrupt, or you are having problems that you can not resolve as a last resort you may wish to simply re-install the game server files. You can do this simply by following the following steps, regardless of the game server you are running.

  1. Stop the game server.
  2. Rename the current game server directory on the server. This can be done via ftp or using the game server control panel file manager. As good practice you should always keep copies of your config files off the server as well anyways.
  3. Click the update files link on the left hand side.
  4. Select the version (if multiple versions are available) you want and hit the install button.
  5. It is not necessary to copy the default configs once it is finished.
  6. Install any mods (if needed).
  7. If the game uses punkbuster, run PB Update.
  8. Copy your server config file(s) back to the location used by the game server.
That is it. You should be then able to start the server as normal. Once you have verified that it is once again running properly you may delete the copied directory in step 1.
